George Adams Dougherty ‘55 passed away at the age of 87 on Saturday, July 27, 2024 in Spring Lake Heights with his loving wife and daughters by his side. He was born and raised in Staten Island, NY. He was a graduate of St. Peter’s High School, S.I. and St. Peter’s University, Jersey City, NJ. He then earned his master’s degree in economics at the University of Notre Dame. After serving his country, as U.S. Army 1st Lieutenant during the Cuban Missile Crisis, George began a 40-year career on Wall Street, with a fascination for the workings of financial markets. While raising his family, he managed all trading desks at U.S. Trust Company of New York and rose to become a specialist in restricted stock transactions for major Investment Banking firms in NY and Philadelphia. His passion for learning led him to form friendships that he cherished for the rest of his life. After retirement, he fulfilled a dream of teaching Economics at Brookdale Community College. He continued to work as a 10-year volunteer for Habitat for Humanity, Jersey Shore University Medical Center and served his community in Fairway Mews, Spring Lake Heights, for more than a decade. He was a communicant of St. Catharine’s Church and a member of the Manasquan Elks Lodge #2534. George loved traveling the world with his wife Susan and was always exploring new adventures.

Francis A. Foy ‘54 passed away on Sunday, March 31, 2024, at the age of 88. Francis was a Staten Island native, beloved husband, loving father and proud uncle born and raised on Staten Island. He later moved to Spring Lake Heights, where he lived for 20 years. Frank proudly served in the United States Army and was also an NYC firefighter for 23 years and an active member of the Knights of Columbus.

Marty Steven Thomas ‘82 passed away on Feb. 25, 2024, at the age of 59. He will be dearly missed by friends and family.

Brendan T Burke ‘64 passed away on Tuesday, Jan. 30, 2024, at the age of 77. Brendan was a decorated Marine who served in Vietnam. He was also a dedicated member of the Marist College community and served on the Board of Trustees for over 20 years, as well as a devoted husband, father and grandfather.

James “Jimmy” F. Sills Jr. ‘66 passed away on Jan. 22, 2024. Jimmy served in the Army Reserves for several years and was a well-known sanitation professional in the community. Jimmy was an active man who enjoyed running and ran the New York City and Boston marathons several times. He always loved watching the Yankees, Giants and Duke basketball.

Daniel Mahala ‘51 passed away on Wednesday, Jan. 3, 2024, at the age of 89. Daniel was an Army veteran, public school educator, beloved husband, father, grandfather and lifelong West Brighton resident.

William B. Newman ‘49 passed away peacefully on Dec. 26, 2023. William was a beloved father, grandfather and great–grandfather, as well as a U.S. Navy Korean War veteran. William was a lifelong, devoted parishioner of St. Peter’s Church, active in the Holy Name Society for many years.

John “Johnny” C. Repage ‘81 passed away peacefully of natural causes on Dec. 25, 2023. An alumnus of the College of Staten Island, Johnny earned his Bachelor’s degree in nursing, which paved the way for a long and distinguished career in healthcare. His skilled hands and compassionate spirit touched the lives of countless patients and their families.

George Russell Smith ‘68 passed away on Sunday, Dec. 3, 2023, at the age of 72. Following a distinguished career in the financial world, he retired as the finance director of The Steak-Umm Corporation in Pomfret, Connecticut. Despite his early retirement, George was not deterred from keeping as active as possible and adjusted his activities in accordance with his limitations, continuing to enjoy life as much as possible.

John Scullin ‘55 passed away on June 6, 2023, at the age of 85. John played saxophone in the Army band while in Korea and enjoyed a lifelong career as a writer and editor for 3M.

William J. O’Brien ‘49 passed away on May 27, 2023, at the age of 92. William was a retired U.S. Army Military Police officer during the Korean War and an active member of the American Legion, serving as commander of Watkins-Kellet Post (1973-1974) and again from 2002-2003.

Robert “Bob” Fraser ‘64 passed away on May 12, 2023. Bob was a distinguished professor at the University of Washington School of Medicine’s departments of neurology, neurosurgery and rehabilitation medicine.

JOSEPH (JOE) CANNIZZARO ‘76 passed away on May 5, 2023, at the age of 65. He was a well-respected member of the Staten Island community, a driven entrepreneur, and, in his free time, a passionate and knowledgeable motorcycle and classic car enthusiast.

LOUIS CORONATO ‘59 passed away on April 18, 2023, at the age of 80. Louis enjoyed a varied career, holding positions as an engineer, salesman and, later, founding his own manufacturer’s representative business. Louis worked as a CT&G Corp partner until retirement.

GREGORY V. DRISCOLL ‘62 passed away on April 1, 2023, at the age of 79. Gregory graduated as valedictorian of his St. Peter’s class and, enjoyed a loving family life with his wife and three children. Gregory was also a U.S. Army veteran who served in Vietnam.

William “Bill” Cloke ‘57 passed away on Feb. 3, 2023, at the age of 83. Bill enjoyed an accomplished career supervising the New York Boroughs and was an avid athlete and loving family man.
