Dear St. Peter’s Family:
This spring we had the honor of celebrating 128 St Peter’s graduates at our 101st Commencement Ceremony. Valedictorian Frank Pizzella and Salutatorian Thomas Conte delivered incredible speeches that spoke to the promising futures that lay ahead for our 2018 graduates.
As we look toward the new school year with excitement and anticipation, I would like to take a moment to congratulate Kirk Emanuelsen on his retirement after 45 years at St. Peter’s as a science teacher, Dean of Discipline and Assistant Principal of Academics. A true unsung hero for St. Peter’s, Kirk has been the backbone of this school for many years and is one of the main reasons why St. Peter’s is where it is today.
I’d also like to congratulate John Walsh (’84), who will be assuming the role of Assistant Principal and will be taking over for Kirk.
You’ll notice a few other changes to the school when you return for the 2018-2019 school year, including new paint colors and artwork that has been added to the second-floor hallway to highlight some existing features.
You will even hear some more music around the halls of St. Peter’s, as we implement a school band with 20 current students and three incoming freshmen for the new school year. We will also be providing a round-trip bus service at two parishes on the south shore of Staten Island for incoming freshman students.
Academically, we continue to strive to offer our students the opportunity to explore courses that will add value to their overall education and life experiences. For our incoming juniors and seniors, that means the addition of two new electives: Anatomy and Physiology and AP Physics.
In the world of sports, we feel confident that our boys will be soaring through another incredible season of athletic pursuits. Some of the highlights for the 2018-2019 season include the addition of George Mahoney, who will take over as head football coach for what promises to be a very exciting season. Our returning Soccer City champs are also anticipating another successful season, and our cross country and track team is looking to continue its success with some promising underclassmen.
On behalf of the entire St. Peter’s administration, faculty and staff, I would like to welcome our incoming freshmen to our growing St. Peter’s family and welcome back our returning students who continue to demonstrate what it means to be an Eagle through and through.
