There’s a first time for everything and St. Peter’s Boys High School’s capped its 103rd commencement with an unprecedented graduation parade and diploma distribution recently at its New Brighton complex.
St. Peter’s 122 seniors, who took part in a virtual ceremony on June 12, got the opportunity to walk around the school’s football field after their name and family were announced. Music played as families took pictures and the graduates received diplomas and gifts from the faculty.
According to principal Michael Cosentino, St. Peter’s allowed 20 seniors per hour to take part in the unique ceremony beginning at 10 a.m. The principal said the six-segment program was completed by 4 p.m.
“Honestly, it exceeded all my expectations,‘’ said Cosentino, noting it took a lot of deliberations before deciding on the final format. “Collectively, it was something special for the boys as they received their diplomas and, while adhering to social distancing, got to do things like take pictures with their family with the school’s building in the background.
“It really worked out well,‘’ added Cosentino. “I received a lot of positive feedback from happy graduates and parents and it’s something that we’ll remember for some time moving forward.‘’
The Advance/SILive.com received some photos from the ceremony and we’re going to share some of them in this report.
