Br. Kevin McDonnell F.S.C.
Br. Kevin McDonnell, a member of the De La Salle Christian Brothers, was deeply devoted to St. Peter’s Boys High School and its students, programs and community for much of his life.
Before his initial leave, he was first at St. Peter’s from 1953 to 1960. After assignments at other schools, Br. McDonnell returned home in 1966 and remained with St. Peter’s for the rest of his career, teaching history, math and religion. Many of his students and St. Peter’s alumni remember him most for his religion class, where he required each to read from Bishop Fulton Sheen’s messages weekly and discuss how they would form themselves into Lasallian men.
Aside from his role as a trusted educator, he is remembered for his active involvement with the Eagles’ athletic programs throughout his more than 40-year St. Peter’s career. Br. McDonnell served as a track coach and could always be found cheering from the sidelines at basketball games and cross-country, indoor and outdoor track meets.
While this induction places him firmly into St. Peter’s Hall of Fame history, it is not Br. McDonnell’s only entry in our school’s story. The street outside our front door (Brother Kevin McDonnell Way) was also named after this true Lassalian by the Staten Island Borough.
